Tips for keeping warm and cosy this winter

The weather’s taken a very wintry turn lately and with more cold snaps and northerly breezes on their way, we thought now would be a good time to share our tips for staying warm this winter.

Before we begin, it’s important to note that latex mattresses are great insulators and unlike memory foam, they don’t overheat, so if you want to stay nice and toasty in bed this winter, make Dunlopillo your first port of call!

  1. Wear more layers.

Instead of notching up the temperature on your thermostat, it’s much better for the planet and your pocket just to pop on a jumper. Layering your clothes and avoiding polyester is a good idea if you overheat, too.

  1. Throws and blankets

If you like relaxing in front of the TV, drape a nice throw over the sofa so you always have a blanket to hand if you feel a chill.

  1. Draught excluders

Excluders keep out cold air, slowing heat loss, and they’re super easy to improvise if you don’t own one. Simply grab an old pillowcase and fill it with towels or laundry.

  1. Rice socks

You can make a pretty nifty set of hand warmers at home with an old pair of socks and a handful of dry rice:

  • Take the rice and pour it into the bottom of each sock till they reach the desired size.
  • Tie a knot and cut off any excess material.
  • Pop the sock in the microwave for 30 seconds or so, and ta-dah!
  1. Hibernate in bed

There’s nowhere better from which to escape the cold than your bedroom, so make sure your duvet is nice and plump and your mattress is as comfortable as possible. We have loads of stockists across the UK – Mattressman.co.uk offers free next-working-day delivery, and they sell natural and anti-allergy duvets as well!

From all at Dunlopillo, we hope you have a warm and cosy winter.
